This final was really interesting for me to do. It covered a sore subject for my family: our dog’s recent surgery and recovery. In our family our dog is a part of our family, he’s like my little brother and we would all do anything for him. When we recently found our he needed surgery or he would remain paralyzed, we couldn’t believe it. I decided to document my family and their thoughts on the procedures Murphy had to endure.
That being said I definitely faced a lot of challenges in trying to film this. One being that I only had one day to get all of the b-roll and interviews I needed and that one day was right before Easter so my house was in a bit of a state of disaster. One fun fact is that I really didn’t think my brother would want to participate in this project, and I was surprised to actually take him away from his law school studies.
I also knew it would be difficult to get my mom to be able to talk about our dog. She treats him like he’s her son and we had to start over a few times because she would start crying. In technical terms everything went well with the camera, lights and mic which is a rarity when I try to completely projects such as these. I really enjoyed doing something so personal and I especially enjoyed having an excuse to follow my dog around with a camera all day.
